One of the top amateur events is right here at KCC, this 50+ year collegiate showcase attracts some of the top amateur golfers in the world. It is a Four-Ball Match Play event contested at scratch. A great spectator event that is open to the public. PGA Tour players including David Love III and Camilo Villegas have played in the KCC Invitational. The event is traditionally held in late July each summer.
Once again, thanks to the generosity of our members, the Kalamazoo Country Club will host the 2011 KCC Invitational. The Invitational Committee wanted to give both new and seasoned members an update on the upcoming 58th Annual Kalamazoo Country Club Invitational, to take place on Wednesday, July 27 – Sunday, July 31, 2011.
In the past, we’ve been fortunate to have some great college players in our tournament such as Davis Love III, Rick Fehr, Dan Pohl, David Sutherland, Kevin Sutherland, Len Mattiace, former U.S. Amateur winner Bubba Dickerson and PGA Tour sensation Camilo Villegas. This year is no exception. We’ll have a number of collegiate players participating in this year’s Invitational, including players from the Penn State, Baylor, Brigham Young University, Miami of Ohio, UCSB, Bethane Cookman, Michigan State University and University of Michigan.
Here’s some additional information about the 2011 Invitational:
On Wednesday, the golf course will close at noon for the practice round event and reopen at 6 p.m. The golf course is open to members after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday during the Invitational. The first tee will also be closed for the finals beginning at 1-1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Please contact the Pro Shop for more information.
The Invitational donates most of the proceeds from the tournament to the KCC Caddie Scholarship Fund.
Through Absolute Video, we have set up a webcast and live scoring. Members and the public simply click on the link www.kalamazoocc.com in order to get live scoring updates and follow the golf action. In addition, at this site, we have profiled all of the outstanding collegiate contestants.
We encourage members and their families to come out to watch and participate in all events. All members are invited.
The Member-Contestant tournament at noon on Wednesday afternoon will give you an opportunity to play with a team from the Invitational. The event is one best ball from the contestant team and one best ball from the two members, with full handicap. Please sign up at the Pro Shop. After the round, you’re invited to join us at 7:00 p.m. for appetizers and cocktails sponsored by Greenleaf Trust followed by a Semi-Formal dinner in the clubhouse beginning at 8:00 p.m. Immediately following dinner, we’ll announce the draw for the 2011 Invitational. Members who do not play in the event are also invited to dinner. Please make your reservations in the Pro Shop.
On Friday evening, we’ll host a fun-filled family night. On the 18th hole, there will be a Junior Golfer/Contestant Shoot & Putt contest beginning at 5:30 p.m. This competition will showcase some of the best collegiate golf talent in the nation paired alongside KCC’s up and coming junior golfers. There will be entertainment for all and a bouncer toy for the younger crowd. A delicious barbeque buffet will be set up around the events for your eating pleasure and we will be offering complimentary beer for members of age. This event is geared toward our junior golf program and children, so we encourage members to bring their whole family and stay for dinner.
In addition, all members are encouraged to attend the Skills Challenge on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. The Skills Challenge will include a number of entertaining shots and tricks, including a long drive contest and a “Big Break” chipping contest where the contestants will be hitting over a wall to the green. This will be followed by an outdoor dinner party with live music at Whites Lake Tavern at 7 p.m. Please make your reservations in the Clubhouse.
