President — Term Expires 2018
Eric brings a wide range of professional experience to the KCC Board. He began his professional career as an attorney in South Florida, working on land use and environmental issues. In 2004, he returned to his home state of Michigan to continue his legal practice as a civil trial lawyer with the Kalamazoo office of Miller Johnson. In 2011, he left his position as a partner with Miller Johnson to take on his current role as CFO and Chief Legal Counsel of State Building Products, a fast-growing steel construction product manufacturing company, where his responsibilities include managing all sales, finance, legal, and technology functions for the company. Eric is also the current Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Steel Framing Industry Association, which works with manufacturers, distributors, and end users to standardized and expand the use of steel framing products throughout North America.
Born and raised in Custer, a small town in the Northern Michigan, Eric attended Michigan State University where he earned his undergraduate degree in Marketing and Supply Chain Management. He then began his law school studies at the University of Colorado, in Boulder, before transferring to the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, Florida where he completed his degree. Eric has previously volunteered his time with several local boards, including the Humane Society and the Boys and Girls Club, and is currently serving as the Chair of the House Committee at KCC.
Eric and his wife, Dorothy, met at MSU, and married 11 years ago after chasing each other across the country to attend graduate school. They moved to Kalamazoo in 2004 and joined KCC in 2010. Dorothy runs her own private dental practice in Texas Corners. They have two young children, George and Olivia, who are both rapidly becoming better golfers than their parents. The entire family enjoys using the golf, pool, and dining facilities at KCC as often as possible. When they are not spending their free time at KCC, Eric and his family make regular trips to the Florida Keys for fishing, boating, and relaxation.
