Host Your Winter Wedding Reception at the Kalamazoo Country Club!

Winter weddings are some of the most beautiful weddings to have. And here in Michigan, one of the silver linings of our winters is the layer of snow that adds a beautiful white coat to the landscape. Here at the Kalamazoo Country Club, we’re able to make the most of our winters thanks to our manicured, closely maintained landscape. That means that, even in the thick of the Michigan Winter, we know how to maintain gorgeous scenery.

With that in mind, we want to take this month’s blog post to discuss the practicals of hosting a winter wedding at the Kalamazoo Country Club. Today, we’re exploring how to plan and host your winter wedding reception at the Kalamazoo Country Club.

Planning a Winter Wedding

Planning a winter wedding is a great choice for anyone who values the beauty of the Michigan winter. That said, there are some special considerations to keep in mind. All seasons pose their own unique challenges—as well as benefits. Here’s how a winter wedding can impact some meaningful areas of your wedding planning:

Budget. Something great about planning a winter wedding is that—pretty much across the board—venues tend to be cheaper. Since weddings are hosted between the spring and the fall, demand generally takes a dip in the winter, which leads venues to lower their prices.

Travel. Hopefully it’s not too much of a surprise to say that driving during the winter (especially in Michigan) isn’t as enjoyable as it is in the summer. That said, there is a serious silver lining: flights are much cheaper. Outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas, flights are much cheaper throughout the winter, making winter weddings an affordable option for guests than have to travel.

Availability. For the same reason that wedding venues tend to be more affordable during the winter, they also tend to be much more (and much less) available. During the winter, wedding venues will either have very open schedules or not be open at all. So, we recommend calling around in advance if you have any venues you want to ensure will be open come winter.

Keep Guests Comfortable at Your Wedding Reception

Keeping guests comfortable at a winter wedding reception is key—but it’s actually much easier than you might think.

Something about the winter cold makes warm meals, community, and celebration even more enjoyable than they usually are. Something about the contrast between the cold of the outdoors and the warmth of celebration makes it feel truly special. With that in mind, here are some ways to make your winter wedding reception stand out:

Prioritize Hot Meals. Nothing beats coming in from the cold and sitting down to a hot meal. This rule applies twice as much for weddings. That’s why we recommend serving warm, steaming-hot foods that your guests will love.

Serve Warm Drinks. Hot totties, hot cider (alcoholic or otherwise), eggnog, and hot chocolate are all amazing drinks to serve at any winter wedding reception.

Recommend Warm Attire. This one sounds like a no-brainer, but it’s important to remind your guests of this. Every family has a couple holdouts who either forget or don’t feel they’ll need to dress too warm—a quick reminder can make a big difference.
