Our History: How We Got Here

The Kalamazoo Country Club is proud to celebrate over 100 years of time serving our community as a gathering spot, golf escape, and shared space for the Kalamazoo community. Within that century of experience also comes a century of experiences. From our humble beginnings in 1909 to the present club that prides itself on leadership and excellence, we have a long and storied history that delivered us to where we are now. In today’s blog post, we’ll be covering just a fraction of that history, to pay homage to those who came before us who worked to create a club that would truly stand the test of time.

Where We Began

The Kalamazoo Country Club found its start in 1909, when 9 members of the Country Club Realty Company with a taste for fine dining decided to establish a club on the scenic Whites Lake. They purchased the property from farm owner Albert White and, along with 20 more board members they signed on, started the Kalamazoo Country Club

The Mid-1900’s

KCC’s journey through the 1900’s saw land acquisition and improvements that still stand today. In 1922, our golf course found its beginnings, and was carved out of a beautiful 25 acres of land that extended to Oakland Drive.

Later on in 1970, two tennis courts were constructed to be open for the enjoyment of all members. They were such a success that a third tennis court was almost immediately commissioned for construction. As the 70’s progressed, the Kalamazoo Country Club went on to construct a new tool shop, as well, to supplement the increased amount of golf carts and other member resources. Even nearly 70 years after its inception, the Kalamazoo Country Club kept innovating as an event venue, which is a legacy we still hold dear today.

Present Day

Today, we continue our predecessors’ tradition of creating a haven of golf, fine dining, and banquet halls for all of our members. In 2008, we oversaw the addition of the Whites Lake Tavern & Grill in addition to a plethora of other member resources, such as lounging areas and locker rooms. Now in 2023, we eagerly work toward the next addition to the Kalamazoo Country Club legacy.
